Chapter 12 Social Studies Study Guide

Dear Parent(s),
We have been studying
"Our Nation and the World" in social studies. In this chapter the students have learned some abou the government
of Netherlands. During this time we compared the different parts of their government to the government of the U.S.A. We have
also learned how countries of the world work together. On November 18, 2008, there will be a test over the information learned.
Please use the facts below as a guide when studying. They will bring home their social studies journal on Thursday. We will
be using them until then. The test is vocabulary, short answer, and multiple choice. The underlined information on 108 is
what students should remember.
1. The parliament is the branch that makes the laws in the Netherlands.
2. If you forget your passport you might not be able to visit other countries.

the United Nations work togther to solve problems between two nations.
4. The Olympic games is an example
of how people around the world work together.
5. Representatives who speak different languages use a
translator, so they can understand each other.
6. The American ambassador to the Neterlands might deliver
a message from the President.
7. The lawmakers represent everyone in the nation in the Netherlands.
8. The exchange program teaches students about cultures so they can understand and accept people.

and money are things that governments throughout the world have in common.

*Our
skills that we will be talking about this week, works with different types of media. Students will need to be able to state
if tey would use a newspaper, television, magazine, radio, or Internet to find certain information. The questions at the end
of the test will be on this information. There will be four questions.
